Matthew 5:14-16

1. THE DARKNESS WITHOUT LIGHT.
“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the
world.” John 1:9
2. THE DESIGNATION OF LIGHT.
“You are the light of the world…” v 14a
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of
the world…” John 8:12a
3. THE DEMONSTRATION OF LIGHT.
“…A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light
a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand…”
v 14b-15a
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light
shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:4-5
4. THE DIFFERENCE WITH LIGHT.
“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead
they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
v 15
“…Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have
the light of life.” John 8:12
5. THE DUTY OF LIGHT.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may
see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” v 16
“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes
in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:46
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you:
God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
“Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the
Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,
keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn
from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” v 11-14
